Audience members will answer the call to star in the Keanu Reeves role for Point Break LIVE!, a stage adaptation of the 1991 film.

James Hook directs the new non-Equity Manhattan run of the work - previously seen in Seattle, Minneapolis and Brooklyn - starting Jan. 25 at the La Tea Theater. The limited engagement plays through Feb. 24.

Point Break LIVE! follows the story in the Hollywood film that "revolves around Johnny Utah, former college football star turned FBI Agent who must go undercover to infiltrate a gang of bankrobbing surfers."

What is unique about the stage take is that the role of Utah (played by Reeves in the film) is played by an audience member (selected at random each night) who is thrust upon the stage (guided by a PA - who also serves as stunt double) and given his/her lines on cue-cards. "Keanu Reeves roles demand a special kind of acting," explains director Hook, on the show's conceit. "Essentially, in every scene, you have to look like you've just been dropped into a room and you have no idea what's going on."

The cast features Topher Mikels (as Bodhi), Thomas Blake (Roach), George Spielvogel (Angelo Pappas), Ben Robertson (Ben Harp), Izzy Abeyta (Tyler Ann Endicott), Scout Durwood (Kathryn Bigelow), Amber Hubert (PA), Mike Kash (Cameraman), Jonathan Evan Stern, Adam Morris and Conor Tansy.

According to production notes, the play "features copious amounts of fake blood, extended fight choreography, and an indoor monsoon." The work premiered at Seattle's Little Theatre and subsequently toured throughout the Pacific Northwest before playing runs in Minneapolis and Brooklyn.

Tickets to Point Break LIVE! at the La Tea Theatre, in the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center at 107 Suffolk Street (between Delancey and Rivington St.) are available by calling (212) 352-3101.

God, do I wish I could go. I would make an AWESOME Keanu.

WOE IS ME

So I'm having a problem.

I'm beginning to physically resemble Rosie O'Donnell.

And don't think I'm exaggerating here, because I confronted The Husband with my observation, and he was all like, Yeah, you kinda do.

I go to the gym and workout. My weight stays the same but my clothes don't fit. Am I retaining water? Am I gaining muscle? Am I sneaking Frappuccinos in my sleep? It's starting to piss me off!!!

I'm off to get a Cafe Mocha at Tim Hortons! Maybe that will calm me down.

BILL MOYERS--THE SECRET GOVERNMENT

On the eve of the State Of The Union...

Here's an old PBS special by Bill Moyers centered on the Iran-Contra scandal. It outlines the history behind the mindset and policies that created the "Above The Law" mentality we've all come to know and love.

(Give it a chance to load--it's 90 minutes long)

interlude--MY PROFOUND THOUGHT OF THE DAY

Holy shit, another picture of pResident Bush--dated 12/20/06--cast as Jesus

I'm mean, seriously, what the fuck? And right before fucking Christmas?! HUH?!?!?!

Anyway, back to my profound thought.

I blew The Husband's mind with this. This is my theory and it belongs to me:
*ahem*
RELIGION is not so much the faith or belief in a god or deity, so much as it is a faith or belief that you are being persecuted by others for your faith or belief in a god or deity.
Discuss.

interlude--GIVING GRISSOM A RUN FOR HIS MONEY

So one of the other gifts I got for my birthday from The Husband is a PC game called Missing: Since January. It's all sorts of awesome. I'm in the middle of it right now.

(No, I haven't finished Final Fantasy 12, but we're about to battle a boss, and The Husband's out at a hockey game hob-nobbing with alums and donors. And playing FF12 has become a Team Effort, what with The Husband's carpal tunnel, and my having to get up to feed The Cats every ten minutes. Plus I have to pee a lot. I should get that looked at.)
Anyway, Missing is pretty High Concept. The story is about this journalist named Jack who disappears with his friend, Karen, while they're off investigating a serial killer. Turns out an old Super-8 movie Jack found in a camera he bought at a garage sale had an in-tact movie in it, featuring the murder of a world-famous scientist (he's into paleography or philology or something) and he'd gotten his hands on an ancient text. So the film in the camera WAS FILMED BY KAREN'S DAD!!! AND HE DISAPPEARED THAT DAY, AND IS PRESUMED DEAD!!!
So Jack and Karen disappear, and the agency Jack worked for gets a CD-ROM in the mail, presumably put together by the person who kidnapped them. And the police can't crack the arcane puzzles on the disk, so they've released it to the public (ie ME!!!) to help them work the enigma and help find Jack and Karen.
It's pretty involved.
A lot of the game involves watching clips from the documentary Jack and Karen were filming when they disappeared. I also have to do a lot of research on the web, mostly involving running stuff through Babel Fish. I just solved a puzzle where I had to find a jpeg of the Greek alphabet with its English counterpart to I could translate a wall sign.
One of the cool things about the game is that when you load it, it asks for your email, so "they" can hook you up with some "others working on the disk" who will periodically email you with clues they've figured out or whatnot to help you along. I just got an email from a "criminal psychologist" who sent me a detailed profile of the kidnapper based on evidence collected from the kidnapper's website and what little they have from the disk.
The only problem with this is the "clues" I'm getting from my "partners" are a few steps behind where I'm actually at in the game. BLAHBLAH BLAHBLAHBLAH is in Greece? Seriously? Thanks for that, but I'm in Istambul now. But I appreciate the help.
So, this is an alone game. Hence I'm playing it alone. With the only space heater in the house on my desk going full blast in my face. It's fucking cold in the basement!
Anyway, got to finish this so I can get on to the sequel, The Thirteenth Victim, and then Evidence.
Evidence comes in an evidence bag. How kick ass is that?
